Smoke Photography :- Tips
Smoke art is an abstract and you need to have a taste other than the aesthetics. The smoke art needs another setup with black background and a must flash (preferably from both the sides and from front ).
Take a long incense stick or thick smoke. You need a tripod for your DSLR which is fitted with preferably a Macro lens at manual focus. Now the trick is to focus on the space where you expect the smoke to go upward.
i normally set this on my DSLR Exposure 0.017 sec (1/60) and Aperture f/8.0.
Now start clicking..
Another Tip:- Blow little air from your mouth like you are whistling and it will add dramatic shapes to your smokes.

Photoshop tip:- Invert the colors if you want a white background and add Hues to the smoke rings and rise.

You can also lower the shutter speed (1') to collect more of smoke thickness. make sure your aperture is set right for this.

Play with colors on your palette, You can add colored gels to your flash for more effects

Always crop the area with more drama and abstract. and give a nice caption.

Happy shooting !!

Splash Photography
All you need is a little bit of patience and your co-ordination with your instruments.
This was my setup (no fancy , cheap and can be arranged at home)

My whole room was flooded after each shot, i needed to wipe the camera lens each drop later. Keep a bucket of water for easy re-fills and lots of tissue and news papers. This time I used Sun for the flash shortage. @f7.1 1/160. Alternatively you can use a light of flash on the top of capsicums.
Choose two beautiful Capsicum

and a glass of water or an Aquarium.
Now set the DSLR on tripod and settings can be adjusted accordingly against the backdrop of black T shirt. Also note that since its a high speed photography, a wirless remote will be handy. You can also go for top notch expensive settings of automatic click for the drops.
I dropped the capsicum and used continuous burst shot of 5 and kept going.
After the shots review them , change the settings if necessary and go on until it satisfies you.
